Jingle Bell Jog 2009

In early December, Baden and Brooklyn participated in their school's annual Jingle Bell Jog. Baden has always been a great sport about running even though he can't really keep up. The Marcus Cross Country team runs with the kids and for the past couple of years we've always had a friend from church run with Baden and help him when he couldn't "run" anymore. It usually meant Derek would pick him up and run with him so he didn't come in last. But this year, we decided that Baden was getting too heavy, plus his P.E. teacher and I thought it would be much safer to not be in the throng of runners (especially at the starting line where I was afraid he would get knocked over and trampled). So, instead of runner, he got to be the officially starter of the race - with a starting gun and everything. The high school coach gave him a quick training on the gun and then he told Baden that he would start the girls run so Baden could see how it worked and then Baden would shoot the gun to start the boys run. But when Baden heard how loud the gun was at the start of the girls run he decided that just standing by the coach was good enough for him.

We were really proud of Brooklyn this year. She ran the whole run and actually came in the front half of the second grade girls. I love her little leap she did as she past for me for her photo shoot. She's actually a really fast girl. I'm wondering if she worried more about running and less about looking cute for the camera is she could shave some time of her run. But she does look cute!!

Love those pictures! That is awesome that Baden got to shoot the gun, even if it was loud. What an awesome coach. :-)
