The Best Fireworks Ever

Highland Village has a celebration every year in early June called Red, White and Blues Day. They have activities all day followed by live music and finally a fantastic fireworks show to top it all off. We have never gone to many of the activities, but we never miss the fireworks - they are amazing. You are literally right underneath them and the sound is deafening. We love it - better than any Fourth of July fireworks we've ever seen.

This year we were packed up in the car about to head off when we got a call from Dallin's dad who said the last band had not come on stage and they didn't think the fireworks would go off for another two hours. It was hot and muggy and we just wanted to see the fireworks, not listen to a band we didn't know while we sweat to death - so we somehow convinced the kids to head back inside, promising that we would leave for fireworks soon.

We left in what we thought was plenty of time to get there - but the band didn't play for as long as we thought. As we were crossing the lake, the fireworks started. We pulled over and agonized for a brief moment that we didn't make it, but then tried to make the most of it. We opened the windows and let the kids pile into the front seat. The show was still good, but not quite the same as sitting right underneath it - the tree that was growing right in our path didn't help matters either. But I think the kids will always remember the year we watched the fireworks show from the car.
